Antonio Rüdiger Apologises After Red Card Outburst in Copa del Rey Final

Real Madrid defender Antonio Rüdiger has apologised for his behaviour during Saturday’s Copa del Rey final defeat to Barcelona, after being sent off for throwing an object at the referee.

The German, who had been substituted, erupted in fury after a late foul call against teammate Kylian Mbappé denied Madrid a final chance to equalise. Rüdiger was shown a straight red card and had to be restrained by teammates.

On Sunday, he issued a public apology, admitting: “There’s definitely no excuse for my behaviour last night. I’m very sorry for that.”

Rüdiger faces a possible ban of up to 12 matches under Spanish FA rules. Real Madrid’s Lucas Vázquez and Jude Bellingham also received red cards after the final whistle.
